Hyperfocal Distance

The Hyperfocal distance is the point at which you focus your camera/lens in order to ensure maximum sharpness from half the Hyperfocal distance to infinity. It is quite difficult to calculate this distance as it is dependent on the focal length of the lens, the aperture and camera model you have selected.

Two definitions are commonly applied to the Hyperfocal distance. Both are essentially true as they share almost identical values:

•The closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp. When the lens is focused at this distance, all objects at distances from half of the Hyperfocal distance out to infinity will be acceptably sharp.

•The distance beyond which all objects are acceptably sharp for a lens focused at infinity.
